On September 9-15, 2013, the Days of Ukrainian Culture in Turkey were held for the first time in the modern history of the Ukrainian-Turkish relations. Ukrainian delegation consisting of 65 members headed by Minister of Culture of Ukraine Mr. Leonid Novokhatko participated in the event.
During the Days of Ukrainian Culture in Turkey, the world-famous National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine named after Pavlo Virsky gave three concerts. Two of them were performed in Ankara and one – in Eskişehir.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a congratulatory telegram on the occasion of the Days of Ukrainian Culture in Turkey.
Moreover, on September 10-14, 2013, two Ukrainian exhibitions – “Scythian Gold” and “Amber Mosaics” – were open for visitors in Ankara’s CermodernMuseum.
Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Ömer Çelik, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Özgür Özaslan, Deputy Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşöğlu as well as heads of state and local government bodies, diplomats, politicians, businessmen, representatives of social organizations and mass media took part in the inauguration ceremonies of the Days of Ukrainian Culture in Turkey and the aforementioned exhibitions.
In the framework of the official visit of Minister of Culture of Ukraine Mr. Leonid Novokhatko to the Republic of Turkey, he held meetings with his Turkish counterpart Mr. Ömer Çelik and Mayor of Ankara Mr. Melih Gökçek. During the meetings, the Parties discussed a number of actual issues of bilateral agenda. Special attention was paid to the present state and future prospects of developing Ukrainian-Turkish relations in the sphere of culture, namely by organizing new large-scale cultural projects similar to the Days of Ukrainian Culture in Turkey and by cooperating in the sphere of protection of museums and cultural heritage.
