Press Release of the Embassy of Ukraine regarding heavy shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory (on July 29, 2014)
29 July 2014 17:21

According to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on July 23-25 Ukrainian militaries were shelled from the territory of the Russian Federation at least for 14 times.

In particular, on July 27, the border crossing point “Dolzhansky” in the Luhansk region was being shelled for more than four hours with mortars and howitzers from the area of the Russian village Chernikov. More than 250 shells were fired at Ukrainian territory, four border guards were killed and two were wounded.

On July 28, the border crossing point “Krasna Talivka” and Ukrainian Army positions nearby Stanytsya Luhanska in the Luhansk region as well as Savur Mohyla in the Donetsk region were heavily shelled with mortars, multiple rocket launchers and artillery from the territory of Russia.

The evidence that Russia is attacking Ukraine is growing. The U.S. has released images (herewith enclosed) taken by photographic-reconnaissance satellite proving that Russia has fired artillery rounds from its side of the border against Ukrainian military units. The pictures, taken between Wednesday and Saturday, indicate fire from multiple rocket launchers inside Russia and targets they have struck inside Ukraine.

These images provide evidence that Russian forces have fired across the border at Ukrainian military forces, and that Russia-backed separatists have used heavy artillery, provided by Russia, in attacks on Ukrainian forces from inside Ukraine.

The first picture, dated July 25/26, shows marks on the Russian side of the border left by artillery aimed at Ukrainian military units in Ukraine, as well as the resultant ground craters on the Ukrainian side of the border.

The second image, taken a couple of days before, shows self-propelled artillery on the Russian side of the border oriented toward Ukraine, with impact areas near Ukrainian military units.

The third image shows a before and after close-up of the artillery strike depicted in the lower portion of the inset in the previous graphic.

The fourth picture shows ground scarring at two multiple rocket launch sites oriented in the direction of Ukrainian military units. The wide area of impacts near the Ukrainian military units indicates fire from multiple rocket launchers. The bottom impact crater inset shows impacts within a local village. The satellite images released by the U.S. are clear evidence of Russia’s active participation in the military actions in eastern Ukraine.
