On August 18, 2014 terrorists shelled a transport column of Luhansk civilians which attempted to leave the combat zone. This bloody crime was committed by terrorists armed and supported by Russian Federation. Mercenaries used multiple rocket launchers “GRAD”, mortars and artillery which had been supplied by Russia. According to estimations more than 17 people died, including women and children. The exact number of casualties is currently being estimated.
On August 18, 2014 Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his deep concerns regarding the attack on a column of refugees. The UN Secretary-General has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis in Eastern Ukraine and emphasized the need for progress in implementing the peace plan announced by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in June, 2014 that involves proposals for decentralizing power, holding early elections, and creating a buffer zone on the Ukrainian-Russian border.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Turkey strongly condemns this barbaric act perpetrated by Russia’s sponsored terrorists, and expresses its deepest and most sincere condolences to families and friends of the innocent victims.
Numerous facts of shelling the houses, schools, hospitals and infrastructure objects in the East of Ukraine by terrorists using heavy weapons confirm that Russia’s supported terrorists are conducting war crimes and should be punished for all their hostile deeds.
We reiterate our appeals to international community to use all possible means to stop bloodshed in Eastern Ukraine and to condemn military crimes of terrorists.
