On 25 September 2014, the Russian Side sent a letter to the Head of the United Nations Security Council in which it accused Ukrainian troops of mass murders of people who had been found in graves near the village of Lower Krynka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine.
On 29 September 2014, Russia’s Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case against unidentified representatives of the Ukraine’s leadership, Armed Forces, the National Guard and the some Ukrainian political organizations accusing them of committing genocide against Russian-speaking citizens living on the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
On 1 October 2014, Russian Foreign Minister S.Lavrov made a false statement regarding mass graves in the Donetsk region.
It should be clearly stated that Russian accusations of Ukraine in “committing genocide” against its own citizens are being made in a very cynical and hypocritical way. By doing this Russia tries to distract attention of international community from the real crimes against humanity committed by the Russian regular forces, Russian mercenaries and pro-Russian terrorists on the territory of Ukraine. Kremlin is also seeking to ignite an inter-ethnic hatred in Ukraine. Such Moscow steps should be considered as elements of defamation campaign aimed at discrediting Ukraine and blocking of the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
Moreover even terrorists from the so called «Donetsk People’s Republic» denied the existence of mass graves. This information was also confirmed by the report of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) on Ukraine dated September 23, 2014. At the same time representatives of the SMM expressed concerns about Kremlin’s manipulations of information about the graves.
The Ukrainian Side has informed the international community about its intention to conduct open and objective investigations of all cases of finding graves and killing civilians during the armed conflict in the Eastern Ukraine. In this context the Ukrainian Authorities called for Russia-supported terrorists to allow Ukrainian and international investigators the access to site of graves.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine conducts investigations of mass crimes in Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine committed by Russia-backed terrorists. In particular, three mass burials were found in the town of Slavyansk freed from the pro-Russian militants.
Despites the concrete evidences of mass graves in Slavyansk and other towns freed by the Ukrainian Army, Russia never condemned the massacres of civilians committed by the terrorists.
According to the UN data, death toll in the armed conflict in the east of Ukraine surpassed more than 3,600 people.
The Ukrainian Authorities exercise every effort to stop the bloodshed and ensure peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Eastern part of Ukraine. The evidence of such policy is Ukraine’s commitment to implementing all provisions of the Minsk Protocol aimed at establishing a long-lasting peace in Donbas.
