Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey S. Korsunsky participated in the Panel on “Regional security and cooperation perspectives in the aftermath of recent developments in Ukraine”

On November 3 2014, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey Sergiy Korsunsky participated in the Panel on “Regional security and cooperation perspectives in the aftermath of recent developments in Ukraine”. The event was held in the TOBBUniversity in Ankara and was organized by the TOBBUniversity, the Center for Strategic Research (SAM) and the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM).

According to Ambassador S.Korsunsky the recent parliamentary elections in Ukraine were held in compliance with the international standards and are important for stabilization the situation in Ukraine as well as consolidation of society around the issue of preserving the Ukraine’s territorial integrity and resisting Russian aggression. The results of the elections showed that people of Ukraine clearly made the European choice.

S.Korsunsky paid attention of participants of the Panel to numerous facts of violation the human rights of indigenous peoples in Crimea by the occupation authority and informed about the measures taken by Ukraine aimed at protecting Crimean Tatars.  Ukrainian Ambassador emphasized that Kreml’s illegal actions pose threat to global peace and security. The Ukrainian Side stressed the importance of further development of strategic partnership between Ukraine and Turkey for strengthening peace and beneficial cooperation in the Black Sea region.

During the conference Director of the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVIM) Ambassador A.Kılıch and Professor of Marmara University E.Eşren made speeches. The moderator of the meeting was Director of ORSAM Dr. Ş.Kardaş.

 The discussed issues caused interest among present scientists, politicians, governmental representatives of the Republic of Turkey, foreign diplomats as well as Ukrainian citizens who study in Turkey. Representatives of Diaspora of Crimean Tatars emphasized that Crimean Tatars see the future of their historical motherland only as part of the European sovereign Ukraine and expressed their strong support for saving the territorial integrity of country.
