President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who arrived to Kyiv to participate in the third meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group, which is the working body of the Ukrainian-Turkish High Level Strategic Council.
The President emphasized that bilateral cooperation couldn't be paused. The interlocutors agreed that the next session of the Strategic Council would be held in Kyiv at the beginning of the next year with participation of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Turkish Foreign Minister noted that his country supported the Peace Plan of the Ukrainian President on the settlement of the situation in the Donbas. "I would like to reiterate our full support of Ukraine's territorial integrity. We will never recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimea," the Turkish Minister said.
The Head of State thanked Turkey for the support of Ukraine's territorial integrity and noted the importance of Turkey's position in the global arena and the international organizations in particular. "We are developing the strategy, which should reintegrate the occupied territories. It includes the creation of free trade area and the holding of local elections. We expect our international partners to support this strategy," the President emphasized.
Petro Poroshenko called for the intensification of cooperation for the protection of the Crimean Tatars' rights. He reminded that leaders of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov are still not allowed to enter the Crimea. The President expressed hope that Turkey would support the international position on the reaction to Russia's violation of its international obligations in the sphere of human rights.
In his turn, the Foreign Minister of Turkey expressed gratitude to the President for the support of the Crimean Tatars. He also informed on the readiness of Turkey to become a participant of the conference of donors and investors for Ukraine that is to be held at the beginning of the coming year.
