On October, 6th 2015 TOBB University of Economics and Technology (Ankara) hosted a conference on “Regional Security Challenges in the Context of the Ukrainian Crisis”. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine H.E. S.Korsunsky talked on the substance of the Ukrainian crisis and its global implications.
The list of the conference speakers included well-known Ukrainian and Turkish researchers, whose area of expertise cover the Black Sea and the Middle East regions. Namely, Dr. Alexandr Bogomolov, Director of the A.Yu. Krymsky Institute of the Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine discussed Russian policy in Syria and its close connection with the situation in Ukraine. Dr. Hanna Shelest, Curator of the “Ukrainian Peace-building School”, Editor-in-chief “UA: Ukraine Analytica”, Head of the Board NGO “Promotion of Intercultural Cooperation” talked on the impact of the crisis in Ukraine on the regional security, as well as its global implications. Dr. Nariman Seytyagyev, Researcher of the A.Yu. Krymsky Institute of the Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine presented the Crimean Tatars’ view of the Russian annexation of Crimea while Professor of Bilkent University (Ankara) Dr. Hakan Kırımlı discussed the reasons and the results of Russian aggression for Crimea and Turkey.
The conference raised much interest and was visited by the representatives of several Ministries, more than 20 Diplomatic Missions accredited in Ankara, academia, think-tanks, NGO’s and media.
