On June 5, 2012 President of Ukraine H.E. Viktor Yanukovych, upon the invitation of the Head of the Government of Turkey H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, paid a working visit to Istanbul to attend the Regional Summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Europe, Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.
During his visit to Turkey Viktor Yanukovych took part in the plenary session of the WEF summit on "The Future of European Integration", which addressed political and economic aspects of the European Union development. In his speech, the President of Ukraine outlined his vision of the future development of European integration process on the continent and the European perspective for Ukraine.
In the course of this visit Viktor Yanukovych also held bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab. During these meetings the parties discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation in various fields.
In particular, during the meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Head of the Turkish Government, the parties discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation, first of all in the context of the preparation for the second meeting of the High Level Strategic Council between Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the agreements reached during the official visit of Viktor Yanukovych to Turkey on December 22, 2011, including agreements on the mechanisms to further expand trade and economic cooperation as well as bilateral cooperation in energy, transport, military, technical, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
