Despite the position of the civilized world, the Russian Federation organized “elections” of the “governor of the city of Sevastopol” in the temporary occupied Crimea on September 10, 2017. These actions of Moscow are flagrant violation of the international law, including UN Charter, United Nations General Assembly Resolutions "Territorial Integrity of Ukraine" A/Res/68/262 of March 27, 2014 and "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)" A/Re/71/205 of December 19, 2016, the provisions of the Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
Regarding this illegal action in Crimea the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed its strong protest to the Russian Federation. The spokesperson of the Ministry stated: “we express our strong protest regarding the “electoral processes” in the occupied Crimea. The elections have no substance and context. Ukraine does not recognize any “electoral processes” in the occupied Crimea. This is a gross violation of the international law and the national legislation of Ukraine”.
The Ukrainian Side strongly condemns and requests the international community not to recognize the above said “elections” and to refrain from contacts with the illegitimately elected "governor" of Sevastopol and other “representatives” of the occupation authorities, not to accredit them, including as members of the Russian delegation to international forums, including interparliamentary ones.
