The fourth round of negotiations on the conclusion of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Free Trade between Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey was held in Ankara on September 6-7, 2012. The delegation of Ukraine was headed by the Government Commissioner for European Integration V.T.Pyatnytskyy. The Turkish delegation was led by the Deputy Economy Minister C.Damlacı. During the negotiations, the Sides demonstrated willingness to continue active endeavors towards finalizing the text of the Agreement on Free Trade between Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey in compliance with WTO standards and criteria.
The Sides confirmed that the Agreement has to diversify the structure of bilateral trade between the two states, intensify all range of business activities between the Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey, ensure fair competition and avert any economic and bureaucratic obstacles. Another important result of the introduction of the free trade regime between the two countries will be balanced trade which will take into account the foreign trade situation in the EU and other neighboring regions.
The Sides continued discussions on the text of the draft Agreement, in particular as concerns the market access regime for goods and services as well as Turkey’s recognition of Ukraine as a market economy in the course of anti-dumping investigations. Besides, the Sides had detailed talks on the current state and the future of the Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in trade in goods and services, parameters of economic competition and mutual tariff proposals.
